Prayer Activity

Olympic Flame

Some pupils only focus on improving their skills and abilities, and not their character. For many reasons, some pupils struggle to believe that they’re good in either area. This activity invites them to recognise the good things about themselves – good characteristics and attitudes (patience, joy, a good listener, compassionate, just) as well as skills and abilities (maths, running, hair-dressing, navigating) – and to ask God to help them ‘be who they are’.

This prayer activity uses the Olympic Flame as a focus, with pupils writing what they are good at, or ways in which they are good, on strips of coloured tissue paper and weaving them into an ever-brightening ‘flame’. However, the same theme could be applied to some entirely different activities.

If we are what we should be we can set the whole world on fire” St. Catherine of Siena

(This prayer zone was created by Carla Taylor and the Stanford-le-Hope Boiler Room community.)
